“OpenAI, the company behind the ChatGPT chatbot, is reportedly in talks to sell shares in a tender offer that values the company at approximately $29 billion. According to a Wall Street Journal report, venture capital firms Thrive Capital and Founders Fund are considering investing in the deal, which includes the sale of at least $300 million in shares. This comes as Microsoft is said to be developing a version of its Bing search engine that uses the AI software behind ChatGPT, as it looks to compete with search giant Google. This valuation marks a significant increase from OpenAI’s $14 billion valuation in 2021, when it last completed a tender offer.”
